National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) brings together labor and business leaders, educational institutions, job seekers and local leaders to uplift how apprenticeships support preparing a highly-skilled, diverse workforce to meet the talent needs of employers in cities, towns and villages across the country. Members of the National League of Cities (NLC) Mayors Education Task Force signed this proclamation in support of National Apprenticeship Week.

National League of Cities NAW STATEMENT

WHEREAS, National Apprenticeship Week is celebrating its 7th anniversary of raising awareness of the vital role Registered Apprenticeships provide in creating opportunities by allowing apprentices to earn while they learn and preparing a pathway to well-paying careers across the nation; and

WHEREAS, the ability of cities, towns and villages to rebuild and recover, both in the infrastructure sector and beyond, relies heavily on our ability to meet business demand for skilled workers. Registered Apprenticeships are one tool in the toolbox to ensure that we have the skilled local workers needed to drive our economic recovery; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship programs are uniquely able to meet the changing demands of the economy and provide a path for all qualified individuals, including women, youth, people of color, rural communities, justice-involved individuals and individuals with disabilities, to become apprentices and contribute to America’s industries; and

WHEREAS, the National League of Cities recognizes that Registered Apprenticeship, a proven and industry-driven training model, provides a critical talent pipeline that can train and build up our workforce to address our nation’s pressing issues such as responding to climate change, modernizing our cybersecurity response, addressing public health issues, and rebuilding our country’s infrastructure.

NOW, THEREFORE, WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, do hereby declare support for National Apprenticeship Week, November 15, 2021, through November 21, 2021.
