Communities are continuously challenged by keeping and investing in their social, gathering and community spaces (their social infrastructure), especially underserved communities or communities of color where resources and funding are limited. This webinar will reflect on some of these challenges, such as the abundance of vacant spaces or buildings that are in many communities around the US, primarily a result of segregation and extraction of resources – whether in large cities or small towns.

This webinar will be co-led by Paola Aguirre Serrano (Borderless Studio), and Bryan Lee Jr. (Colloqate) on May 1, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM EST. Both designers are recognized for their national practices committed to spatial justice and equitable design. They will share their experiences working with communities in multiple geographies in the United States (Chicago, IL; Portland, OR; New Orleans, LA; and Brownsville, TX) and exchange ideas and strategies as tools to build relationships with communities and investment opportunities for ongoing change.
