As a national organization committed to democracy and international cooperation, the National League of Cities’ board of directors passed a resolution of support for Ukrainian city leaders and their residents who are fighting the unjustified Russian invasion. The resolution was passed on Sunday, March 13 during NLC’s Congressional City Conference held in Washington, DC.

The NLC board heard directly from Mayor Andriy Sadovyi of Lviv, the fifth largest city in Ukraine. Mayor Sadovyi spoke passionately about the tragic humanitarian situation unfolding in his city and throughout Ukraine. You can watch a portion of his speech below.

The events happening in Ukraine, including the abduction of a Ukrainian mayor by the Russian military, is disturbing and should be denounced across the globe. Many NLC members who have sister cities in Ukraine have already done so. Several cities, like Dallas, Cleveland, Charleston and Beverly Hills, have passed resolutions condemning the egregious actions of the Russian government. NLC also issued its own statement.
