Connecting Local Leaders to Capitol Hill
Elected officials don’t always have to travel to Capitol Hill to make their voices heard. Members of Congress and their district staff appreciate opportunities to visit facilities during district work periods.
These work periods are when members return to their district from Washington, DC to connect with their communities, as it affords them the opportunity to understand constituents’ views and opinions. Local leaders who build relationships with congressional representatives and their staff are much more likely to see their efforts affect the members’ decisions.
As Congress considers FY2026 spending priorities, local elected officials have an opportunity to spotlight their community projects, share how they are financed and position them for future federal support. Inviting your delegation to your community could better position your projects to be considered for a FY2027 Community Project Request or convince Congress to prioritize the next federal transportation bill.
NLC experts can provide your community with tools and access to help coordinate a successful in-district engagement event. Interested in participating? Submit your information in the form below to let us know or if you need NLC support.
