This webinar will highlight cities that are featured in a new NLC report
on municipal leadership for children, youth and families in small and mid-sized communities with populations below 75,000. The report combines in-depth case studies of comprehensive local initiatives with a rich array of promising practices gathered from more than 40 smaller cities across the nation.
Learn how municipal leaders in smaller communities are taking action to improve outcomes for children, youth and families. Speakers will include:
- Renee Cariveau, former councilmember, City of Spartanburg, S.C.
- Malcom Chapman, former alderman, City of Rapid City, S.D.
- Barb Garcia, community development specialist, City of Rapid City, S.D.
Speakers will discuss their local efforts to improve mental health services, expand access to high-quality early learning, promote authentic youth civic engagement, support low-income families, and develop joint use agreements for city and school district facilities. They will also share their perspectives on the unique challenges and opportunities facing smaller cities and towns that are focused on these issues.
