Presentation and handout from a March 2017 session designed to help local elected officials and city staff understand the role of elected officials in public finance. Addresses critical public finance topics along with best practices and resources that will allow elected leaders and city staff to better engage in managing a financially sustainable government. Specific focus is placed on understanding financial reports and financial disclosure, the role of elected officials in establishing financial policies, best practices in budgeting.
