As municipalities grapple with balancing the outcries for safe communities with the need to uphold equitable and just practices, it is clear that collaborative approaches are key to moving the needle. Efforts that include an ecosystem of local elected officials, city departments, community based organizations, youth, healthcare systems, schools, philanthropy and residents can be a challenge to navigate in theory, design and implementation. However, such efforts can help address many of the difficulties municipalities face regarding existing capacity and the sustainability of any public safety gains made.
