Overview

City Name: City of Phoenix Police Department

NLC Partner: Axon

Problem: Law enforcement training can be costly, difficult to administer, and may not align with changing community needs. Can virtual reality (VR) be the catalyst to transform law enforcement training?

Solution: Implement a virtual reality training program focused on community engagement. The program integrates modern technology and programs based on performance science for a holistic approach to training a higher performing police officer.

Outcome: The test and evaluation of virtual reality training was successful based on the limited survey results from the study precinct at the Phoenix Police Department. The study found that most respondents find virtual reality community engagement training to be effective. The study will be expanded in 2022 to additional precincts for a wider pool of candidates and to capture further survey results.
