-Ilana Preuss, Recast City (1 Credit)
-2:30 pm - 3:45 pm ET

Most local economic development strategies do not specifically focus on how to build a more racially inclusive community of business owners. But it is time (past time) to be intentional and purposeful in our work to help Black, Latinx, and other business owners of color in our communities succeed and build wealth. Working with small-scale manufacturing businesses is one concrete way to take action and start making changes immediately to build a more inclusive local economy without needing to wait for some big, long-term strategy.

Join this training to learn about small-scale manufacturing businesses, their benefit to your economy, how to work with these businesses to immediately start building a more racially diverse local economy, and how to use this method to improve the rest of your economic development programs to better support diverse business owners in the future. This training will be interactive - conversations, brainstorming, and worksheets included.

Expert Hour: Third-Party Data’s Role in Local COVID-19 Recovery Strategy
-Oliver Wise, Tyler Technologies (1 Credit)
-2:30 pm – 3:30 pm ET

ICU beds are freeing up and testing capacity is increasing, but the story of the COVID-19 crisis is far from over. Ensure you are a data-ready government leader and prepared for the role data will play in the road ahead to recovery. Large cities can easily purchase the data they need to inform economic recovery strategies, but where does that leave smaller communities? New technology is leveling the playing field and enabling public leaders to tap into big-league insights. Hear from your city peers on this novel approach to economic forecasting in times of recovery.

Learning Objectives:

  • Access private-sector data with ease to provide greater detail to government statistics

  • Launch more effective and equitable recovery strategies to protect lives and livelihoods in your community

  • The ins and outs of building better recovery dashboards
