On behalf of the nation’s cities, towns and villages, the National League of Cities (NLC) today issued the following statement on the passing of former Congresswoman Kay Granger:
“As the first female mayor of Fort Worth, Texas and a former city councilmember, Congresswoman Granger never forgot her local roots. Her life included several first, including as the first female chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee. NLC was honored to have Congresswoman Granger serve as a founding co-chair of the bipartisan Former Local Elected Officials Caucus. As a co-chair of the caucus, she was dedicated to improving our nation’s intergovernmental partnership and ensuring the voice of local government is heard in federal decision-making. She was a tireless advocate of local governments and our communities, and we are grateful for her decades of public service. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.”
Prior to her election to Congress in 1996, Congresswoman Granger served as the first female mayor of Fort Worth, Texas. She also previously served on the Fort Worth Zoning Commission and the Fort Worth City Council.
