New initiative will help cities, towns and villages better understand and apply artificial intelligence tools

Washington, D.C. — The National League of Cities (NLC) has launched its AI & Emerging Technology Forum to help local governments better understand, evaluate and responsibly implement artificial intelligence tools in their communities.

The Forum is a new initiative designed to bring together mayors, chief information officers, local government technology practitioners and innovators to explore how cities, towns and villages can use AI to improve service delivery, strengthen local governance and build internal capacity.

The AI & Emerging Technology Forum will focus on providing practical resources, tools and guidance to help local leaders navigate the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Discussions will center on real-world applications, responsible use and opportunities for local governments to leverage emerging technologies in ways that benefit their communities.

The Forum first convened virtually in March and will reconvene at the 2026 City Summit in Nashville, Tenn., advancing ongoing collaboration and knowledge-sharing among participating cities.

Through this initiative, NLC continues to expand its support for local governments as they navigate emerging technologies and adapt to a rapidly changing digital landscape.
