NLC and NACo Ask USDA to Fund SNAP Benefits

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National League of Cities (NLC), in partnership with the National Association of Counties (NACo), circulated a letter urging USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins to release Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) contingency funds to prevent disruption of November benefits during the ongoing federal government shutdown. Counties and cities are intergovernmental partners in administering vital federally supported services, and our communities are already preparing for significant nutrition assistance surges if SNAP issuances lapse. Additionally, in the ten states where SNAP is administered at the county level, local governments are working to implement major program changes enacted earlier this year while continuing their daily operations.
