NLC Statement Concerning the Colorado Springs, CO Shooting

November 21, 2022 - (1 min read)

In response to the tragic shooting at the LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, CO killing at least five people and injuring 25 others, National League of Cities (NLC) CEO and Executive Director Clarence E. Anthony issued the following statement:

“This past Saturday, as we were celebrating the end of a successful City Summit, a tragedy was underway in Colorado Springs. A shooter entered an LGBTQ+ bar and opened fire, ultimately killing at least five people. While it’s easy to grow numb to the steady drumbeat of mass shootings, this latest one is yet another reminder of the continued need for flexible federal funding for local programs that address hate crimes, gun violence and promote gun safety education. Needless to say, the deaths and injuries of this latest shooting are heartbreaking.”
