NLC Statement in Support of Inflation Reduction Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, National League of Cities (NLC) CEO and Executive Director Clarence E. Anthony issued the following statement in support of the Inflation Reduction Act:

“From extreme weather events to sea level rise, local leaders see firsthand the devastating impact of the climate crisis. We applaud the climate and clean energy provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, which will support investments in renewable energy and reduce greenhouse emissions. These resources and investments will complement the programs and funding provided through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to advance local climate action and create more resilient communities. We urge the Senate to pass this bill and the House to take it up quickly.

While this bill includes provisions important to cities, the work of Congress is not done here. To support our economy and invest in the workforce needed to rebuild and strengthen our infrastructure, we urge the Senate to take up reauthorization of the House-passed Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2002. The training investments in this package are an essential resource to workers in cities, towns and villages as they work to gain and upgrade their skills to meet employer demand, including the many new jobs that will be created through Bipartisan Infrastructure Law investments.”
