NLC President Joe Buscaino Talks Partnership and Congressional Action on COVID-19

Washington, DC – Today, Joe Buscaino, President Pro Tempore, Los Angeles City Council and President, National League of Cities made a statement following yesterday’s coronavirus task force press conference and Congressional action.

“As our country is facing an unprecedented public health crisis, local leaders are driving critical efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Cities, towns and villages are on the frontlines of responding, and we are making life-saving decisions every day including aggressive efforts to maximize social distancing within communities.”

“The financial impact on our communities will be long-lasting and a strong partnership with the federal government will be critical to ensuring local government is not left holding the bill. The National League of Cities commends the immediate action that Congress has taken and is eager to continue to work with them to craft a comprehensive stimulus package that puts the needs of local communities’ front and center.”

“The health and safety of our residents is our number one concern. It is imperative all levels of government continue to lead with a sense of urgency and work together to stop the spread of this pandemic. Thank you to our nation’s health care and first responders for putting the needs of our communities first.”
