Celebrating Lights On Afterschool

October 18, 2019 - (1 min read)

This month, on October 24, NLC is partnering with the Afterschool Alliance to celebrate Lights On Afterschool Day, a nationwide event that celebrates afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities. The events send a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs. This year marks the 20th annual celebration, and NLC has pledged to make it the brightest ever and we need your help!

Social Media Challenge

To honor the children and youth learning and growing in afterschool programs in your city or town and all of the providers who teach them, light up your City Hall or a landmark to show your support. Take a picture and tweet it out using #lightsonafterschool and tag @leagueofcities so we can share it further.

Cities keep the Lights On!

Make a commitment to celebrate the afterschool programs that keep kids safe, inspire them to learn, and give working families peace of mind. Find sample proclamations or tips on how to light up buildings here.
