Heidi Goldberg, Director of Economic Opportunity and Financial Empowerment

Since 2005, Heidi has led the NLC Institute for Youth, Education and Families’ efforts to assist city leaders to strengthen the economic and financial health of families. Heidi has conceptualized, developed and managed multiple initiatives that help city leaders make impactful change in their communities.  Initiatives have included expanding economic mobility and inclusion, reducing the harmful impacts of municipal fines and fees; building citywide financial inclusion systems; creating children’s savings account programs; strategies to connect residents to affordable financial services; and developing citywide anti-hunger and benefit enrollment campaigns.  Her work has included numerous publications and toolkits and she has been quoted in a variety of local and national media outlets, including the New York Times and CBC Radio.   

Goldberg previously held positions at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and Wider Opportunities for Women, specializing in state and federal TANF policy and workforce development, and as a manager of a residence for formerly homeless women in Boston. Goldberg received her B.A. from Vassar College and holds a MPP and MSW, both from the University of Michigan.
