Jon Kuhl is Senior Executive and Director of Digital Engagement, Marketing and Communications at the National League of Cities (NLC)— the voice of America’s cities, towns and villages, representing more than 200 million people across the country. NLC works to strengthen local leadership, influence federal policy and drive innovative solutions. Jon provides leadership and management for NLC internal and external communications, marketing campaigns, digital platforms and visual design functions.

Prior to joining NLC, Jon held several senior roles within the District of Columbia government, including Chief of External Affairs at the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, where he oversaw communications, public affairs, and legislative affairs for the 475+ person agency. As part of his work, Jon led the development of the agency’s five-year strategic plan and was responsible for the creation and implementation of agency regulations and legislation, including emergency regulations designed to help the city respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before working in local government, Jon was a senior consultant at a national public affairs firm where he managed federal advocacy and communications strategy for several high-profile clients. Jon also served as a vice president at Credit Suisse, where he helped guide the bank’s legislative, regulatory, and reputational priorities in North America. Before working at Credit Suisse, Jon worked at the National Conference of State Legislatures, where he oversaw media relations as the Director of Public Affairs.

Jon earned his undergraduate degree at Hamilton College, where he studied government, and received his masters degree in public relations and corporate communications from Georgetown University.
