New Peer Network to Promote Postsecondary Success

Responding to cities' growing interest in raising college completion rates, the YEF Institute has launched the Municipal Leadership for Postsecondary Success initiative with support from Lumina Foundation for Education.  The creation of the Postsecondary Success CIty Action Network (P-SCAN) as an affinity network within the Mayors' Education Policy Advisors' Network (EPAN) is a vital component of this initiative.

Through a competitive process, 15 cities have been selected to participate in P-SCAN, the YEF Institute's newest peer learning network.  The 15 cities are Berkeley, Calif.; Corpus Christi, Texas; Glendale, Ariz.; Hialeah, Fla.; Las Vegas; Memphis, Tenn.; Mobile, Ala.; Nashville, Tenn.; New Haven, Conn.; Oakland, Calif.; Orlando, Fla.; Pasadena, Calif.; San Antonio; St. Louis; and St. Paul, Minn.

Members of P-SCAN, a subset of the YEF Institute's longest running peer network, the Mayors' Education Policy Advisors Network (EPAN), were recommended by their mayors in a letter of interest.

The YEF Institute will convene an annual meeting of P-SCAN to help cities identify and share effective strategies for promoting postsecondary success.  The Institute will also use e-newsletters, an online community website, and audioconferences and webinars to foster connections and communications among P-SCAN members.

As key lessons emerge from the work of P-SCAN, the YEF Institute will identify and share effective strategies with cities and towns across the nation through NLC's City Practices database, a series of municipal action guides and other resources.

How to Join

P-SCAN is open to EPAN members from the 15 cities listed above.  For more information, contact Marjorie Cohen at (202) 626-3052 or
