This council was formerly known as the First Tier Suburbs Council.
The Suburban Municipalities Council (SMC) welcomes local elected officials from NLC member municipalities that identify as suburban communities, including established suburbs, rapidly growing municipalities and communities transitioning through redevelopment. Members work together to address the unique opportunities and challenges facing suburban local governments.
Council Objectives
- To be recognized as the voice and advocate for suburban municipalities
- To be a resource to municipal officials from suburban municipalities
- To engage suburban municipalities as active NLC members
