In celebration of NLC’S Small Cities Month this June, NLC and the City Health Dashboard are excited to host a webinar highlighting the strengths and unique challenges of improving health and well-being in our nation’s smaller communities.

The City Health Dashboard offers free data on 45+ measures and drivers of health across five domains to over 1,200 cities in all 50 states. Five years ago, we launched the Put Us on the Map Challenge — an initiative designed to expand the Dashboard’s reach by bringing smaller cities, those with populations of 50,000 or less, onto the platform. By joining the Dashboard, cities gain access to valuable data and innovative features to help guide decision-making and drive change. To date, we’ve added over 180 cities through the Challenge, including Decatur, GA, Maplewood, NJ, and Nacogdoches, TX.

Participants will hear from Mayor Sonja A. Brown and Mayor Pro Tem Travis Bruton of Glenn Heights, TX — a small but mighty city of around 20,000 — on how they’ve launched local health programs by building on the successes of other cities and adapting them to their own context. Glenn Heights, TX, was also one of the cities added during the 2025 Put Us on the Map Challenge.

Join the webinar to learn more about this exciting opportunity for smaller cities, including how to apply to the Put Us on the Map Challenge, what selected cities will receive if accepted, and how previous winners have put the data to use to advance local health and equity.

Note: Registration link will take you to a non-NLC web page.
