This six-session program breaks down the frameworks, tools, and funding strategies needed for local government leaders to build more resilient communities. Offered through a series of expert-led virtual sessions, this program takes city officials through the fundamentals of emergency and floodplain management in the U.S., providing a practical, end-to-end roadmap for protecting residents, housing, infrastructure, and public investment.
Participants will also gain a comprehensive understanding of how disasters impact community resources like housing stock and economic development. They will learn to assess their community’s unique hazard profile and risk exposure and explore proven mitigation strategies, from large-scale construction projects to accessible, community-driven solutions. The program also demystifies the federal funding landscape, walking leaders through grant programs from FEMA, HUD, EPA, and DOT, as well as alternative financing tools. Finally, participants are equipped to manage the full lifecycle of a funded project, procurement, execution, compliance, recordkeeping, and audit readiness.
Cities that participate will walk away with a clear, actionable understanding of hazards and their impact and knowledge of how to fund and implement mitigation activities. In an era of increasing environmental risk and complex federal programs, this program gives local leaders the edge they need to protect their communities and compete for critical resilience funding.
