City leaders are presented with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in their communities thanks to historic federal investments in infrastructure and advanced manufacturing through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022.

Achieving the promise of such investments will require a skilled and ready workforce to build America’s next-generation infrastructure.

NLC has launched a new partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Good Jobs, Great Cities: A Sectoral Approach to Building America’s Next Generation Workforce. Through this partnership, the Good Jobs, Great Cities Academywill engage up to 12 cities from May 2023 to July 2024.

Participation will culminate in the launch or expansion of workforce initiatives to train and place workers, particularly local residents from historically underserved communities, in quality jobs created by federal investments (BIL/CHIPS/IRA) across high-demand sectors, in partnership with local workforce development boards, employers, labor unions, labor-management partnerships, education and training providers, and other community stakeholders.
