NLC’s Sustainable Cities Institute to Offer Sustainability Training Workshop this Summer!

NLC's Sustainable Cities Institute will co-host, with Shadowcliff Lodge, a Sustainability Coordinator's Workshop this summer focused on addressing the unique sustainability needs of small to medium size communities. Led by a team of experienced city sustainability directors, this workshop will guide participants through the concepts, challenges, strategies and opportunities to create strong, healthy and sustainable communities.

The training will take place July 31 - August 4 at Shadowcliff Lodge, a mountain sanctuary overlooking the town of Grand Lakes, Colorado at the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.

The four-day program has been designed specifically for sustainability coordinators, city managers or other city professionals responsible for sustainability duties in small to medium sized communities. Through an interactive program participants will leave prepared to create, expand and implement effective and context-appropriate sustainability plans and programs. In particular, the workshop will provide an overview of "triple bottom line" approaches, strategies for gaining buy-in from diverse interests, and recommendations for getting started, including identifying and implementing "low-hanging fruit" solutions.

NLC is especially excited to welcome the expertise of Sustainability Directors in the cities of Kansas City, Mo., Flagstaff, Ariz. and Fort Collins, Colo. who will lead participants through the program and share their on-the-ground experience.
