The NLC Prescription Discount Card Program that began in January 2009 now has over 600 cities across the country helping residents with the high cost of prescriptions. Nationwide, the NLC program has saved city residents more than $10 million to date.

With the NLC Prescription Discount Card, residents who are without health insurance or with prescriptions not covered by their insurance will immediately be able to receive an average discount of 23 percent off the retail price of their prescriptions (discounts vary by prescription). The discount card is accepted at all national pharmacy chains and most local independent pharmacies.

"The National League of Cities works hard to provide value to its members and this is a program that has clear benefits and the potential to save money for the community well beyond the cost of the city's annual dues to NLC," said NLC Immediate Past President and Charlotte, NC, Councilman James E. Mitchell, Jr.

NLC is pleased to announce the following cities launched the NLC Prescription Discount Card Program in July and August :

Fort Lauderdale, FL
Richton Park, IL
Edwardsville, KS
North Las Vegas, NV
Kenmore, WA
Woodinville, WA
Wisconsin Dells, WI
Black Jack, MO
Canton, OH

The NLC Prescription Discount Card is available to all member cities at no cost and is easy to implement. The city is provided with customized discount cards, posters and other materials. For more information, visit or contact Marc Shapiro at NLC,
