National League of Cities Responds to White House Workforce Announcement

WASHINGTON — July 20, 2018 — With the recent workforce announcement from the White House on the National Council for the American Worker, its advisory board and the new Pledge to America’s Workers, the National League of Cities (NLC) is pleased to see a continued focus on the need for investment in workforce development, which is critical to the economic strength of cities. The following statement may be attributed to NLC President Mark Stodola, mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas:

“NLC looks forward to working with the president and the administration on its continued focus on investment in workforce development, particularly in ensuring that the citizens in our communities are trained with the skills and know-how needed to compete in today’s workforce.

“In cities across America, local leaders are working closely with their local workforce development boards to ensure that those who are unemployed, as well as those looking to change careers, have access to the skills and vocational training needed to meet the business needs in our nation’s diverse communities.

“Whether you are out of school, recently involved with the criminal justice system or simply looking to upgrade your skills, it is incumbent upon the workforce system to meet your needs.
