National League of Cities Announcement on In-Person Events

The following is a statement from Clarence E. Anthony, CEO and Executive Director, National League of Cities:

“As the majority of our country stays home and practices social distancing, the National League of Cities continues to assess the impact on our own operations and make important decisions on teleworking, travel and events.

Your officers and I have made the decision not to host any in-person NLC events through July 31st, 2020.

Protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our members, attendees, staff and ultimately the residents of cities, towns, and villages across the country is paramount. This was not a decision we made lightly, as the connection we have to each other is the foundation of our work. However, this situation provides us an opportunity to explore new ways of collaborating and pushes us to an exciting new “virtual” meeting world.

This decision will impact events such as our Summer Board and Leadership meeting, constituency group annual meetings, state league staff training and more.

I have asked my staff to determine the best path forward for each of our individual events— deciding if we officially cancel the event, postpone or shift to a virtual experience. You will receive more information about those decisions no later than May 1, 2020.
