Incoming NLC President Announces Next Year's Appointment Process
National League of Cities (NLC) First Vice President Chris Coleman, mayor, Saint Paul, MN, announced his plans last week for the appointment process for the 2014 NLC committee and council chairs, vice chairs, and members.
Coleman said he will make the leadership appointments (chairs and vice chairs) in late October or early November in order to have his leadership team mobilized at the conclusion of the 2013 Congress of Cities and Exposition in Seattle, WA, November 13-16. Appointments to serve as members of the committees and councils will be completed in mid-December and all applicants will be notified before the end of the year.
In his role as incoming NLC President, Mayor Coleman will appoint chairs, vice chairs, and members to the standing committees and councils for one-year terms. These committees and councils include the Policy and Advocacy Steering Committees; the Council on Youth, Education, and Families; the International Council; the Large Cities Council; the Military Communities Council; the First Tier Suburbs Council; the Small Cities Council; and the University Communities Council.
Only individuals from NLC member cities are eligible to hold a leadership position and serve on these NLC standing committees and councils.
"The chairs and vice chairs of the committees and councils, along with the leaders of NLC’s five constituency groups, play an important leadership role in helping NLC achieve its goals and in ensuring that local governments collectively have a seat at the table in 2014," said Coleman.
