2016-2017 CHAMPS State-Based Initiative

Sign up HERE to be part of CHAMPS, and to learn more about funding to eliminate child hunger in your city.

NLC, in partnership with the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), is in its fourth phase of Cities Combating Hunger through Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs (CHAMPS). This phase of CHAMPS is targeting three key states - Alabama, California, and Kansas - to expand participation in the Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs.

Grant Funding Available for Cities in Three Target States to Close the Hunger Gap

This CHAMPS initiative offers the potential for cities in the three target states to apply for grant funding and tap into resources that can help the children in your city grow up healthy and arrive at school ready to learn and support important out of school time programming. Working with statewide anti-hunger organizations, NLC and FRAC seek to provide support and guidance to cities in each of these three states to encourage and enhance city support for both the At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program, also known as the Afterschool Meal Program, which falls under Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

How to Participate

To be eligible to apply for grant funding or technical assistance, you must work within a city agency in Alabama, California, or Kansas. To participate in CHAMPS sign up here.

Cities may participate in the CHAMPS initiative and receive technical assistance even if the city does not wish to apply for grant funding. Once you've registered, NLC and FRAC will provide you with resources and information to help you get started.

Join CHAMPS to help us reach our goal and to improve the health and well-being of your city's kids!
