NLC Wraps Up its “State of the Cities 2013” Series

April 1, 2013 - (2 min read)

NLC concludes its “State of the Cities 2013” series today on our blog, CitiesSpeak. The series features seven posts analyzing 2013 State of the City Addresses given by mayors from 30 U.S. cities across the country. NLC’s team from the Center for Research and Innovation and the Institute for Youth, Education and Families found that city leaders consistently used community assets – the people, the relationships and the partnerships – to solve pressing local challenges. While the analysis was divided into five broad themes – economic development, public safety, education, infrastructure, and fiscal management – city innovations were cross-cutting and demonstrated the creativity used by city leaders to create prosperous neighborhoods and communities.

In conjunction with this blog series, the National League of Cities will publish a State of the Cities 2013 website, coming soon. In the meantime, NLC is looking for inspiring city projects, initiatives and stories to profile.  Email your success stories to mcgahan@nlc.org and use #CitiesLead on Twitter to keep the conversation going.
