Raleigh Recognized for Savings in City Purchasing

Raleigh was presented with a U.S. Communities Customer Appreciation Award for supporting cooperative purchasing and utilizing multiple U.S. Communities contracts over the past three years and purchasing more than $3 million of products and services since joining the program. The city has saved significantly on electrical supplies, auto parts, furniture, public safety equipment and other products through its participation in U.S. Communities.

Mary Waller, Purchasing Manager, accepted the award on behalf of City of Raleigh. "We appreciate the recognition," said Waller. "The City of Raleigh has had a long relationship with U.S. Communities and it has been a great organization to work with as far as the quality of the contracts and vendors and the assistance and service that U.S. Communities provides for us."

NLC executive director Clarence Anthony said about the award, "It is with great pleasure that we congratulate the City of Raleigh for receiving the award from U.S. Communities. As a founder and sponsor of this great national purchasing cooperative, NLC is pleased that the city has been an active participant in the program and achieved significant savings from the program's pricing and best practices."

U.S. Communities is a nonprofit government purchasing cooperative that reduces the costs of goods and services for participating public agencies by aggregating their purchasing power nationwide. Since its inception, U.S. Communities has saved local agencies, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations across the country more than $1.5 billion It is the only national purchasing cooperative sponsored by NLC, along with four other national governmental organizations and many state municipal leagues.
