The United States has reached its highest number of fatalities on roads since 2007. In 2021, 46,000 people died on our roads, a nine percent increase from 2020.
Road safety is an important priority that local governments can play a critical role in addressing. Through the Department of Transportation, the federal government is enhancing coordination of its new and existing road safety programs into a comprehensive National Roadway Safety Strategy to reduce injuries and deaths on our streets and highways.
