Seattle, Wash. Area Leaders Honored During National League of Cities Conference
Seattle, Wash. - Three Seattle area leaders were honored tonight for their public service at the National League of Cities' (NLC) 2013 Congress of Cities & Exposition in Seattle, Wash. The honorees were recognized during a joint reception of the Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials (APAMO), Hispanic Elected Local Officials (HELO) and Women in Municipal Government (WIMG), all NLC constituency groups.
Local honorees included:
- Cheryl Chow (posthumous), former councilmember, Seattle, Wash. (APAMO)
- Estela Ortega, executive director, El Centro de la Raza (HELO)
- Marilyn Strickland, mayor, Tacoma, Wash. (WIMG)
The 2013 Congress of Cities and Exposition is being held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Wash. Local leaders from across the U.S., including many of NLC's members, are participating in the four-day conference designed to provide an opportunity to develop skills through workshops, leadership training and engagement opportunities.
The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
