NLCU Seminar Speakers Announced for 2016 Congressional City Conference
Leading up to this year's Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C., the National League of Cities University (NLCU) will be hosting a series of pre-conference training seminars, covering a range of topic areas relevant to our cities' issues and goals. NLCU's pre-conference training program provides one of the largest opportunities for local elected and appointed city officials to receive training and resources designed to prepare leaders to meet challenges and capitalize on the potential in their communities.
NLC University is a collaborative educational and professional development initiative that focuses on four key proficiency areas – leadership, management, engagement, and issue expertise – in order to provide municipal leaders with an interactive and engaging approach to refining the skills and developing the strategies that will allow them to better govern, serve, and advocate for their communities.
This year, NLC University offers a diverse selection of seminars on a range of topics, including: global outreach and engagement; disaster resilience in community planning; results-based leadership and accountability; urban planning and development; multi-sector collaboration between private, public, and non-profit entities; how to attract and retain foreign direct investment; budgeting basics and resource allocation; priority-based budgeting in policy-making; managing city manager and city council relations; building creative, inclusive communities; and strategizing city management with skills from the private sector.
