NLC Calls on Cities to Help Save Municipal Bonds
With various sources continuing to report that House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) remain committed to moving tax reform bills through their respective committees after the August congressional recess, NLC is asking local officials for their help now to protect municipal bonds.
“Please help us highlight the importance of municipal bonds to your community,” requests NLC Executive Director Clarence Anthony. “Please write a letter to your congressional delegation, send an op-ed to your newspaper and, better still, hold a media event at a municipally-funded infrastructure project and invite your member of Congress.”
Visit NLC’s municipal bonds webpage for more information on how to make an impact.
If proposals to eliminate or limit the tax exemption become law, local governments will pay more to finance projects, leading to less infrastructure investment, fewer jobs, and a greater burden on residents through higher taxes and fees. This will have a negative impact on local economies, and members of Congress need to hear that directly from their constituents.
