NLC Advisory Council Member Appointed to FCC Intergovernmental Advisory Committee
WASHINGTON - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced Tuesday that Sonja Reece, Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember of Normal, IL will join their Intergovernmental Advisory Committee. Mayor Pro Tem Reece is a current member of the National League of Cities' (NLC) Advisory Council and a past NLC Board Member.
Reece joins two other members of NLC's Information Technology & Communications Policy and Advocacy Committee on the FCC advisory committee: Andy Huckaba, council member, Lenexa, Kansas, and Gary Resnick, mayor, Wilton Manors, Florida. The committee is comprised of 15 representatives from local, state and tribal governments and provides guidance to the FCC on communications issues important to local governments.
"NLC is thrilled to have Mayor Pro Tem Reece join Councilmember Huckaba and Mayor Resnick in representing the interests of cities and towns before the FCC," said Clarence Anthony, NLC Executive Director. "It is critical that the FCC hear firsthand from local officials about communication policies that will encourage economic opportunities in our hometowns."
Reece has served as a councilmember in Normal since 1991. She has served as Mayor Pro Tem since 2007.
The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans
