National League of Cities Calls for Unity in Wake of NYPD Shooting

Washington, D.C. - After the tragic shooting deaths of two police officers Friday in New York City, Clarence E. Anthony, CEO and executive director of the National League of Cities (NLC), issued the following statement:

"Friday's shooting of two NYPD officers was a horrific act of violence that deeply affected all of us who know and work with law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers are first and foremost with the families of the slain officers, whose pain and loss are felt by a nation in mourning.

"In this difficult time, we call for unity among city leaders, law enforcement agencies and the people that they serve. Only by working together, with mutual respect and understanding, can we move forward and continue our work strengthening America's communities."
