Membership Spotlight: Councilmember Dejerilyn King Henderson, Troy, Alabama

Who I’m following on Twitter –  President Obama and my son Cedric D. King

My three goals for 2014 –

  1. Register as many persons 18 years of age and over to vote for the November 4, 2014 General Election.
  2. Actively engage as many citizens as possible in the political process.
  3. Enhance and develop leadership skills to effectively communicate with my fellow council members and constituents.

If I weren’t doing this I’d be – an elementary school teacher

The best advice I ever got was – Never give up, keep trying if that's what you really want to do!

On my desk right now – On my desk right now is a picture of my 57 years old sister who went to heaven April 29, 2012 after an awful fight with lung cancer.

What you should know about my city – I should know how many people in my city commute to other cities to go to work daily!

What does the future of cities look like – The future of cities look like more younger and older people using computers to pay public utilities, cable and buy groceries.

Why cities should join the National League of Cities  – Cities should join the National League of Cities to enhance and develop leadership skills that ultimately help grow our cities and towns across this great country. Local governments are in need of persons who are willing to learn to network and develop effective communication skills which allows opportunities to get positive changes for all people.
