Marie Lopez Rogers, National League of Cities Past President, Continues Her Commitment to Public Service in a New Role

National League of Cities Past President Marie Lopez Rogers resigned as mayor of Avondale, Ariz., after being named to the Maricopa County, Ariz. Board of Supervisors. She fills a vacant seat and will run for election in an August primary.

"I congratulate Supervisor Rogers on her new appointment in Maricopa County," said NLC Executive Director Clarence E. Anthony. "She is an ardent supporter of NLC and we are sad to see her go. The residents of Maricopa County are fortunate to have a dedicated public servant and advocate who brings a vibrant energy and passion to her work helping families and communities. We wish her the very best."

Supervisor Rogers was elected to the Avondale Council in 1996 and became mayor in 2006. In 2010, she was elected as NLC's second vice president and became NLC president in the fall of 2012.
