Funding Opportunity Available for Family Learning Programs
The National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) recently found that 40 percent of parents do not feel comfortable helping their children learn outside the classroom, and more than half of parents wish they knew how to make better use of the tie they have with their children. In an effort to empower families with the knowledge necessary to maximize their learning time together, NCFL is seeking applications for an exciting new grant opportunity.
Municpalities, schools (public and charter), libraries and community-based organizations are encouraged to submit applications for this three-year, $175,000 grant, which will fund learning programs that target vulnerable families and feature service learning and family mentoring. The five selected grantees will also receive a wide range of training, communication and technical support, learning items and materials.
This opportunity is made possible by the Toyota Family Learning (TFL) initiative, a partnership between the NCFL and Toyota. The TFL initiative promotes family engagement in education through the development of intergenerational solutions to educational challenges that respond to societal changes and opportunities. NLC's YEF Institute has a strong partnership and an aligned mission with the National Center for Families Learning, and is proud to support and promote this opportunity for municipalities, public agencies and their partners to positively impact families.
Applicants selected to join this ground-breaking initiative will engage families in learning activities that help them reach their full potential and serve their communities. The deadline to apply is Monday, June 23, 2014. Read the RFP and visit toyotafamilylearning.org for more information.
