Constituency Group Events at the Congressional City Conference

At this year’s Congressional City Conference, NLC’s five constituency groups are convening special sessions and events to engage their members on the issues that are important to them.  

Women in Municipal Government (WIMG)
WIMG celebrates its 40th anniversary at NLC this year.  Under the leadership of President Mildred Crump, council president, Newark, N.J., the group will convene its Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, March 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  Among the topics for discussion will be plans for the WIMG Summer Conference in Newark. The tentative dates for this are May 21-24, 2014.

WIMG will also host its annual membership luncheon, "A Capital Feast." This event is open to all delegates as a ticketed event on Monday, March 10, from 11:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The luncheon will feature keynote speaker Neera Tanden, right. Tanden is the President of the Center for American Progress. Her remarks will highlight The Shriver Report -  A Woman’s Nation Pushes Back from the Brink, which discusses women’s rights issues.

Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials  (APAMO)
APAMO members will convene a Business Meeting on Monday, March 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  This year’s meeting will feature the election of the 2014 APAMO Board of Directors and APAMO President Mayor Stephen Sham, Alhambra, Calif. will hand over the reigns to Vice President Suzanne Chan, councilmember, Fremont, Calif.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Local Officials (GLBTLO)
Under the leadership of President Keith McGlashan, councilmember, Shoreline, Wash., GLBTLO will be holding its Business Meeting on Sunday, March 9, from noon to 1:30 p.m. It will be hosting a reception on Monday, March 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  

Hispanic Elected Local Officials  (HELO)
At HELO's Networking Business Meeting on Sunday, March 9 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., President T. Oscar Trevino, mayor, North Richland Hills, Texas plans to have the Board and members focus on long- term planning to help build membership and corporate support. The group will also discuss plans to host HELO’s Summer Leadership Retreat  in Boston, Massachusetts, tentatively scheduled for August 21 -23, 2014.

National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO)
Under the leadership of President Adam McFadden, councilmember, Rochester, N.Y., NBC-LEO will be connecting with members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) on Wednesday, March 12 at noon for a legislative briefing to discuss NLC, NBC-LEO and CBC priorities. This year’s Congressional Black Caucus Chair is Marcia Fudge of Ohio’s 11th District.

NBC-LEO will convene its Membership Business Meeting on Monday, March 10 from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. and its Member Networking Open House on Sunday, March 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Its Board of Directors meeting will immediately follow the Open House from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. NBC-LEO will host its Evening Out on Sunday, March 9 from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.  President McFadden plans to host NBC-LEO’s summer conference in Rochester with the tentative dates of July 30 – August 2, 2014.

Constituency Group Event Fees
Several constituency groups have special activity fees for their events at the conference that may be paid via the conference advance registration or onsite at the registration desk.  Individuals may also pay their annual constituency group dues in the conference registration area.
