NLC hosts record-breaking advocacy day with 800+ local leaders advocating for cities, towns and villages on Capitol Hill.
The Cities Congressional Conference offers local leaders a chance to meet directly with their Congressional Delegation in Washington, D.C. to advocate on behalf of cities, towns and villages. This year, more than 800 elected officials and city staff took to Capitol Hill for a day of meetings with members of Congress and staff.
Hill Day By the Numbers

- 138 meetings with Republican offices
- 139 meetings with Democrat offices
- 1 meeting with an Independent office
Advocacy Priorities
Local leaders took the the Hill to share how local governments have successfully utilized or are planning to utilize grant programs authorized by historic federal packages, including the American Rescue Plan Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act and Chips and Science Act, to address the pressing needs of their residents.
This included the Simplifying Grants Act of 2023 that will ease administrative burdens on smaller communities as they apply for federal funding, transportation safety bills such as the Railway Safety Act of 2023 to strengthen infrastructure and protect residents, reauthorization of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, the Protecting Community Television Act, which will rollback harmful preemptive regulations and a reauthorization of the Farm Bill, essential to local economic success, before it expires later this year.
