REAL Action: Advancing Racial Equity in Local Government
City leaders must step up to take the lead with their police departments, business and community leaders to address racial inequities in their respective cities and towns. City leaders have a unique capacity to engage with their communities on racial equity issues and make smart policy decisions that can reduce racial inequities in institutions and systems and restore police–community trust. Do not wait for a tragedy to occur in your city to address these pressing issues. This session will provide city leaders an opportunity to understand how racial tension has impacted cities across the country. Participants will learn how to shift from reacting to crises and headlines to developing and implementing a proactive and sustainable agenda that advances racial equity. Participants will be able identify specific opportunities to lead local efforts at home that advance racial equity.
