NLC’s Christopher Hoene to Speak as Part of Panel during Governing Event

January 30, 2012
Christopher Hoene, Director of the Center for Research and Innovation at the National League of Cities (NLC), will participate in a panel tomorrow during Governing Magazine’s Outlook in the States and Localities Conference. The panel will react to questions posed by previous session speaker The Hon. David M. Walker, Founder and CEO of the Comeback America Initiative and Former Comptroller General of the United States. Walker will address solutions for the “new normal” and the impact of the financial crisis on states and localities.

Hoene leads NLC’s city finance research and is co-author of the annual City Fiscal Conditions report. The September 2011 report found that the nation’s cities are continuing to cut personnel and infrastructure projects as the economic downtown continue to take its toll on city finances. The report concluded that general city revenues are continuing to fall, marking the fifth straight year of revenue declines, with expected further declines in 2012.
