Mayor Lopez Rogers grew up working side-by-side with her parents picking cotton in the small migrant farm labor camps around the city. She continues to work in the same site where she used to pick cotton - except now City Hall sits there. First elected to local office in 1996, on January 1, 2006, she was elected as Avondale, AZ's first Latina mayor. The granddaughter of immigrants, Mayor Rogers is guiding the transformation of her community from once a tiny community, to now one of the nation's fastest growing municipalities.
