General sessions, workshops, mobile workshops and constituency group meetings are open to the media. All other meetings are closed and media access must be obtained by contacting the NLC Media Relations staff. Please contact Media Relations staff to arrange interviews with specific members.
When approaching members, media must identify themselves as members of the press.
Press badges are available only to working members of the media. Due to space limitations, NLC may be unable to issue press badges to publishers, editors or reporters or other individuals not actually reporting on the event.
To obtain a press badge, identification certifying that you are a working member of the print or broadcast news media and/or a letter stating that you are on assignment to cover the event is required.
The final decision on all applications for press credentials rests with NLC staff. If you are with a publication and are not reporting on the event, please contact NLC's Media Relations staff (above).
NLC prefers to work with media outlets that have an established track record covering local government and related issues. As a general guideline, we work with outlets that have been in continuous operation for at least 3-6 months and follow a regular publishing schedule.
Applicants may be asked to submit circulation or traffic data from a third party in order to be considered. Applicants must publish under their real names - bloggers who publish without their identities on their site will not be considered.
Media granted access are expected to act professionally at all times. Those who do not observe the practices of professional decorum run the risk of being ejected from the event and barred from future access. Access is a privilege, not a right, and NLC reserves the right to revoke this privilege at any time.
When approaching members, media must identify themselves as members of the press. Credentials must be worn at all times.
Members of the media interested in attending events should contact NLC's Media Relations staff (as listed above).
Media must check in at the media registration area to receive credentials. Television crews and photographers covering the event should check in at the press room each day with their shooting schedules. All videographers and photographers must have a press badge, even when accompanied by a credentialed reporter.
Audio and video is allowed with specific permission. Please notify the NLC Media Relations staff of your intent to use audio and video recording devices. Members of the media are also asked to be considerate of attendees and exhibitors when shooting or conducting interviews. Any audio or video obtained may not be reproduced in whole on the Internet. NLC's Internet television channel, NLC TV, is available at www.nlctv.org.
Live blogging is allowed in written text format only. We acknowledge that bloggers and wire service reporters will post frequently throughout an event; however, any abuse of this privilege will lead to the revoking of press credentials.
