NLC Welcomes Bloomberg Challenge to Mayors

June 18, 2012
Last week, Bloomberg Philanthropies announced a new project called the Mayors Challenge. It provides $9 million in startup funds to 5 city proposals that capture the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurism that exists on the local level. The Mayors Challenge will reward programs that demonstrate a new way to solve local challenges, are replicable by other cities across the nation, and leverage local resources outside of city government.

"This is an opportunity for cities to showcase new thinking and potentially new modes of operation," said Donald J. Borut, executive director of the National League of Cities. "This project is a great way to capture and highlight the innovation that occurs on the local level."
