Bob Bolen, the former mayor of Fort Worth, Texas and NLC's President in 1990, passed away at his home Monday. He was 87.
Bolen served as mayor of Fort Worth from 1982 to 1991, the longest tenure in the city's history. During his presidency at NLC, Bolen lead the search to replace NLC's longtime Executive Director Alan Beals. Don Borut, NLC's executive director from 1990 to 2012, described Bolen as "truly one of the great leaders and visionary presidents during my tenure at NLC."
NLC's Executive Director Clarence Anthony added, "We feel a great loss with the news of Bob's passing. He was an extraordinary leader and a tireless advocate on behalf of cities across the U.S. Bob will be remembered not only for his exemplary work in public service but also as a friend and colleague that made a lasting impact at NLC."
