NLC launches its ‘State of the Cities' series on our blog, CitiesSpeak. The series features seven posts analyzing 2013 State of the City Addresses given by mayors and city managers from 30 U.S. cities across the country. The inaugural post can be found here, and the second post, which focuses on innovation in the local economic development arena, is here.
The blog series provides analysis and commentary on the major trends and themes within these State of the City addresses, and highlights the creative ways in which cities are using their local resources to solve challenges, reenergize their social capital and implement innovative policies and practices that build stronger communities.
All this week, NLC will publish a blog post each day that reflects issues that affect cities and residents across the country. Each post will focus on one of the five core themes identified throughout the addresses: economic development, public safety, education, infrastructure and municipal finance
