Seattle, Wash. - T. Oscar Trevino, mayor, North Richland Hills, Texas, was elected the 2014 president of the Hispanic Elected Local Officials (HELO) constituency group during the group's membership business meeting today during the National League of Cities' Congress of Cities & Exposition in Seattle, Wash.

Established in 1976 as a forum for communication and information exchange among Hispanic local government elected officials and NLC colleagues, HELO provides training and information services to its members. HELO addresses issues affecting the Hispanic community such as education of Hispanic youth, immigration reform, the North American Free Trade Agreement, bilingual education, voting rights and minority business enterprise programs.
The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
